We received several more items
from our team members, a higher resolution DEM, and some historical
precipitation and climatological data. The historical data was
brought into Excel and the DEM was converted using GIS to be used in
WMS. An initial analysis is being done and results will be
discussed the following Monday in the meeting with Dr. Nelson.
The video conference went well
last week. Dr. Nelson spoke in the beginning of the last hour
about data needed by the majority of the teams. Bryan spoke
during our alloted time and communicated our understanding of the
project, and the questions we developed for them. It was great
seeing the people we are working with. It made the experience
feel more real. It also made the team more excited to be working
on the project.

Communication is ongoing
with Sandra, and we have received land use and
soil type files from her that we will be able to use to calculate a CN
(curve number) for WMS. Initially we have used a 90m DEM file of
the
Domincan Republic in an attempt to match the shape of the watershed
provided by our team members. There appears to be a difference
when
comparing the shape developed with our WMS model, and their provided
shape. A request was sent to receive higher resolution DEM data.
Sandra replied back saying she is
working on acquiring the data we are asking for. The video
conference is scheduled in two days. We will be presenting our
understanding of the project, what we hope to accomplish, and ask more
questions. We're all excited!
We also gave a presentation to
the other teams about the Rio Boba
project. A copy of the slide presentation can be seen by clicking
here. We modified our slide for a video conference with our Domican Republic collegues, to see this click here.

The majority of work
this week was spent on understanding the scope of the Rio Boba project.
A requirement of the course is to write out a "Scope of Work," a
document outlining our understanding of the project, the structure of
our team, a schedule to follow, and other things. We asked
questions about our teammates to get to know them a little better.
The goal of this is to understand our project and develop further
questions to ask about the project. A video conference is
currently in the process of being scheduled in the next few weeks.
We will get to speak and see our team members. Very
exciting!

A reply was received from our teammates
expressing
their pleasure to be working with us as well. They also
provided
a list of watershed parameters that they have collected that will be
useful in the design of the watershed model.

An email was sent to our team members in
the
Domincan Reupblic introducing ourselves and expressing our excitement
to be working on the Rio Boba Flooding Project. We also asked
a
question about what kind of data they have on the project thus far.
